Banyan Global operates within five practice areas gender, youth, health, economic growth, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.


Banyan Global is currently recruiting for a Gender and Youth Manager to support the Feed the Future Tanzania Kilimo Tija activity. The purpose of this horticulture activity is to sustainably increase economic opportunities in horticulture market systems, especially for youth. This purpose will be achieved by (a) strengthening horticulture market systems to increase enterprise and employment opportunities; (b) increasing access to commercially provided, climate smart, and productivity-enhancing agricultural technologies; and (c) strengthening the enabling environment for market systems. The position is full-time, based in Dar es Salaam, and contingent on funding.

The Gender and Youth Manager will provide the following support
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the USAID-funded Feed the Future Tanzania Kilimo Tija Activity to ensure that project activities address gender equality, women’s empowerment, and positive youth development.
  • Provide technical oversight to Regional Gender and Youth Specialists.
  • Work with consultants and contracted partners as necessary in developing gender and youth related materials.
  • Ensure that gender and youth considerations are integrated and mainstreamed across the program, including project design, implementation and monitoring, operations, as well as in staff training materials, policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the project’s gender action plan and link it to the overall project work plan and monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Produce and provide input into project work plans, with attention to gender and youth dimensions of technical activities and operations, and discuss gender and youth issues and priorities with senior management and other technical specialists.
  • Conduct gender and youth assessments in project locations in Tanzania as required.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance on gender and youth integration to key personnel, project staff, government ministries, and project partners and stakeholders.
  • Engage with available and active women and youth networks for project implementation, as well as project learning and knowledge-sharing.
  • Design and facilitate trainings for staff, stakeholders, and project clients to ensure that the project assesses and accounts for gender and youth considerations.
  • Develop appropriate gender and youth resources and tools for project staff.
  • Contribute to quarterly, biannual and annual reports, including case studies and success stories.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned and share with project staff and external stakeholders.
  • Travel as necessary throughout the country to project designated locations.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in the horticulture sector working on gender and youth issues, government, civil society, and/or donor initiatives that address constraints, challenges, and opportunities facing the sector and increasing the economic participation of youth by addressing behaviors, challenges, or risks that exclude them or limit their participation.
  • Knowledge of lead firms, associations, and other institutions that comprise Tanzania’s horticulture sector, as well as the financial and business development services that support them.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills and personnel and team management skills.
