JOB VACANCY – HEALTH PROMOTER SUPERVISOR – FULL TIME – 100% Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MAIN PURPOSE

In close collaboration with the PMR, implementing and supervising educational campaigns according to MSF values, standards and procedures in order to increase awareness of the targeted population and to promote prevention and treatment of diseases in the project area

ACCOUNTABILITIES

o   In close collaboration with the PMR, participate in the definition and update of the HP/IEC strategy and identifying indicators in order to monitor HP activities, results, and achievements. Supporting the PMR in organizing and carrying out assessments and research on the impact of HP activities and identifying and reporting the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the HP strategy inside and outside the medical structures in order to reinforce the link between the communities and the project

o   Providing support in selecting and developing quality pedagogical communication strategies towards the community. Planning information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population.

o   Informing, according to protocols, community members and identified risk groups (prisons, army, sexual workers, etc.) about health related issues

o   Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF’s medical and non-medical staff

o   Identifying key actors (local authorities, local NGOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) and being the focal point for the networking in order to support the dissemination of health information of the target population, and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.

o   Organizing, training, and supervising the HP team in terms of planning and organizing their work, supporting, evaluating and coaching of personnel, collecting reports and reporting the activities of each health worker and regularly visiting communities that are under his/her responsibility

o   Supervising, in close collaboration with the HR department, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required

o   Ensuring cleanliness of IEC (information, education and communication) areas

o   Collecting and reporting to the medical team any information linked to the health situation of the population and the patient.

CONTEXT SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Liwale project being an integrated approach and working in selected health facilities of the district (one hospital, two health centres and four dispensaries). The HP supervisor is expected to work in close collaboration with the MOH staff and CHWs. HP activities are also delivered in the stated catchment area community. As HP supervisor:

o   Planning and implementation of HP activities in the health facilities and catchment community

o   In collaboration with district HP offer, create health promotion committees and facilitate distribution of responsibilities, and regularly facilitate meetings to monitor performance .

o   Train and monitor the facility hygienists on IPC, waste management and disposal in collaboration with respective health facility incharge

o   Guid, train and lead the CHWs both at facility and community to provide health message, create awareness, identify cases from the community requiring medical attention and facilitate referral. Facilitate patient tracing and/or  home visit.

o   Compile activity report and submit to PMR on time.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

Essential diploma in social sciences or education/pedagogy / or social work.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years previous working  experience in health promotion activities

MSF experience desired or previous experience working with NGOs.

Languages:

o   Knowledge of both English and Swahili is desired

Competences and main skills:

o   Essential knowledge working with MS Office packages

o   Results and quality oriented

o   Proven stress management

o   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

o   Commitment, flexibility and agility.
