Who we are
The Immigration Services Department is established under Section 4(1) of the Immigration Act of 1995 Chapter 54 as amended by Act No.8 of 2015. It gives the Department the authority to control and facilitate immigration issues in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Department is one of the security organs under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
To become an efficient and effective Institution, which provides high-quality Immigration services that meet both national and international standards.
To facilitate and control movements of persons through the implementation of relevant Laws and Regulations in order to safeguard national security and economic interests.
Migration security and development
A visa is a permission granted to a foreign visitor who intends to enter Tanzania for the purpose of visit, tourism, leisure, holiday, business, health treatment, attending a conference or any other related activities recognized by the Laws of the country. Note:
It should be noted that the possession of a Visa is not a final authority to enter the United Republic of Tanzania. The Immigration Officer at the Entry point may refuse a holder of visa to enter, if he is satisfied that the holder is unable to fulfill Immigration entry requirements or if the presence of such person or visitors in the United Republic of Tanzania would be contrary to the National Interests.
Passports and Travel Documents Information
Passport is one of the very sensitive documents issued by the government to its citizens so as to allow them to travel outside the country for various purposes. Tanzania government issues various types of passports and other travel documents as provided for by the Tanzania Passports and other Travel documents Cap 42 of 2002 and its Regulations of 2004.
The passport pages for the current electronic passport contains various images and drawings which explicates the country’s history and tourist attractions.
With exclusion of Geneva Convention travel document and Certificate of Identity, all other types of passports including Emergency Travel Documents may be applied online through the following link:
After accomplishing to fill the form online and make payment, applicant is required to print and submit the form along with the required attachments to the nearest Regional immigration Office, Immigration Headquarters, Immigration Head Office in Zanzibar as the case may be or at the relevant Tanzanian Embassy If the applicant is outside the country.
General Requirements for Application of Passports
An application for a passport shall be accompanied by the following:
- A Birth Certificate or Affidavit of Birth or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant (In case the applicant is a citizen by naturalization).
- A birth Certificate or Affidavit of Birth or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant’s parent or parents’
- National Identity Card,
- Recent, clear 1 passport size photo (to be uploaded online)
- A fee of 150,000 for passport and 20,000 for an Emergency Travel documents.
In case the applicant is below the age of 18 years, the parent’s or legal guardian must accompany the applicant and submit a written consent regarding the applicants’ trip outside the country
